2018 Baseball Product Launch Campaign

Lousville Slugger is arguably the most iconic baseball brand in the world. The bat market is controlled by several heavy-hitting brands, and fleeting loyalty with the critical age-group needed to be combated by Louisville Slugger with campaign concepts and creative that spoke very directly to the target audience to elevate the brand and position the 2019 in-line and custom lineup as the must-have of the season.

 

For BBCORE and the men's campaign, we focused on the game itself, and the techology of the bat complimenting the player's own personal attributes. While every player wants to "Send It," not everyone is a home-run hitter. Where a player sends the ball is less important than the fact that they connect with consistency and accuracy, and that they are reliable from the first inning to the last. This is how Louisville Slugger supports every unique player as a critical component to a team.

 

The careful use of curated photography, graphic treatments and purposeful messaging allowed the product to stand out and be differentiated, and inferred that the audience could easily be the player wielding the most innovative tool to achieve success.

For the players of the George Mason University basketball teams, every game is an opportunity to show their fans and opponents just who the United Nation of Mason is. For every game, the team at Mission got the same opportunity. To generate high-value, viral ROI and an extended reach, two modular landing pages (the student Platoon and the Ticketing site) were created. They allowed customizations to key imagery and callouts as the focus shifted between ticket sales, season passes, and mini-plans. Custom Facebook cover photos, Snapchat filters, Instagram posts, and targeted paid campaigns for every home game drove qualified (in addition to loyalty and pride) to those landing pages; sessions to the Tickets site increased +340% year-over-year. To top it all off, there's nothing quite as satisfying as seeing your custom-made hype video displayed on a jumbotron. 

• When compared with previous seasons, increases were seen across all attendance categories.

Significant increases were seen on both the tickets page (+63,000 sessions) & platoon page (+2,500 sessions).

• On the tickets page, 12% of sessions led to a click-through to Ticketmaster to complete a purchase.

2018 Louisville Slugger Fastpitch Product Launch Campaign

With an overall goal of unifying and advancing the Louisville Slugger brand to sell the new product, it was also critical that Mission recognized the differences between positioning Louisville Slugger for men and women. Fastpitch players wanted to be portrayed as athletes, acknowledged for their dedication and work ethic, admired for their strength, yet still recognized as girls (and thus, different from baseball players). The "PowerFull" campaign quite literally put the power in the hands of the player, positioning the bat as an extension of the player, tailored to their unique playing style and requirements. The campaign leveraged Team USA softball players as pinnacle models for the strength and power that girls desire, and that Louisville Slugger brings.

 

The careful use of curated photography, graphic treatments and purposeful messaging allowed the product to stand out and be differentiated, and inferred that the audience could easily be the player wielding these most innovative tool to achieve success.

Have you ever wondered how space exploration affects your daily life? "Spinoffs" are commercial products and services derived from NASA technology or improved through NASA partnerships. The NASA Home & City interactive web app allows you to explore some of the spinoff technologies you can find in your everyday life, demonstrating the wider benefits of America's investments in its space program. 

Mission designed and developed the new and improved Home & City interactive online website using advanced WebGL technology allowing users to navigate through two virtual 3D environments from your desktop or mobile device. The mobile version uses gyroscope functionality to navigate throughout the environment, allowing users to view and move throughout the scenes. 

At the guidance of NASA Space Technology Mission Directorate and through support provided by the National Institute of Aerospace. In Collaboration with content partners Bully Entertainment and Woodpile Studios.

The Maryland Zoo

Oktobearfest 2015

Mission partners with The Maryland Zoo every Fall to promote their annual "OktoBEARfest," a German-inspired beer festival, that is hosted in conjunction with Baltimore Beer Week. Each year, a combination of traditional and digital marketing efforts are implemented to generate awareness of the event, drive attendance, and increase advanced ticket sales. 

During the 2015 campaign, marketing efforts highlighted the opportunity to experience the Zoo and sample a variety of season craft and local beer, enjoy German-themed food truck fare, and listen to live music while supporting The Maryland Zoo. In both traditional and digital marketing campaigns, "OktoBEARfest" used creative that integrated the shape of popular zoo animals into the outline of a beer glass through fall-themed illustrations.

STX Rival Helmet Product Launch

Elite performance. Infinite possibilities. That was the message we needed the 13-18 year old lacrosse player to take away with them when they heard about the all-new Rival helmet by STX.

To accomplish that goal, Mission created immersive landing pages where users could see all of the custom options available as well as dig into the technology. Through 3D renderings, photography and video, players could experience the Rival for themselves before even seeing it at their local retail stores.

Mission was originally hired by The Maryland Zoo to provide design services and implementation support for a fundraiser. After a successful event, we became the agency of record, working to elevate the Zoo's brand and rebuild the organization's reputation. Recently, we were honored to work with the Zoo team to develop a new identity and visual language that will define the Zoo brand and inspire its voice for years to come. Together with the Zoo, we've successfully changed the perception of the organization and celebrated consecutive years of record attendance and financial solvency.

The goal of the site was to provide users with quick and easy access to all of the happenings at the Zoo whether it is daily feedings or special events ultimately driving more foot traffic and memberships throughout the year.

The bat market is controlled by several heavy-hitting brands, and fleeting loyalty within the critical age-group needed to be combated by Louisville Slugger with campaign concepts and creative that spoke very directly to the target audience to elevate the brand and position the 2019 in-line and custom lineup as the must-have of the season.

After revitalizing their brand and unifying their messaging, Mission was asked to revamp the Casey Cares site. We developed a new, responsive design, combined with improved technical features and clear user paths, to lead to better understanding of how Casey Cares makes little moments and lasting memories.

Since the launch of the new site, there has been a reduction in bounce rate with an increase in time on the page. The site has also increased awareness with more sessions, users and page views.

George Mason University Athletics faced the challenge of reaching its target audience in the highly competitive DC and Northern Virginia area that is flooded with popular collegiate and professional sports franchises. To increase ticket and season pass sales, bolser attendance, and get people hyped about the upcoming season, George Mason University partnered with Mission to create a unifying brand identity that included dazzling and dynamic print assets promoting the 2017-2018 basketball season. We created mini and full-size schedules, mailers, posters, and programs featuring men's and women's team players, and key slogans for the school, like "Green and Gold," "United Nation of Mason," and "#GetPatriotic." Each asset was designed with an element of Hollywood-style that simply couldn't be ignored, from spot-glossing and die cut posters to a variable data printing on basketball envelopes.

Health Care for the Homeless

Health Care for the Homeless Website

The opportunity to work with Health Care for the Homeless presented us with some unique strategic challenges. The audience for the site is incredibly broad and varied.  For opinion or policy leaders and agency supporters, the website needed to first address and dispel the myths and misconceptions around homelessness, and then move to engage the user in the organization's mission.  We recognized the value in utilizing various mediums for storytelling for these individuals, who are receptive to an experiential path. For the homeless population and those that support them through their personal or professional relationships, the website needed to provide distinct paths to specific and relevant information.

We were honored to be selected to work with Liberty Mountain Resort to rebrand and reposition them as a true 4-season resort.  Their new website is one of the most prominent communication channels to showcase the "new" Liberty, which includes incredible new lodge complete with two restaurants, beautiful wedding and meeting space, brand new hotel rooms, and true full-service resort amenities.  Featuring a robust, thoughtful navigation, custom UX tools such as the "find your package" selection feature,  visually stunning photography and design, and a responsive framework, the website elevates the brand and sets expectations for an unforgettable experience at the resort.

Everyone has a story to tell, and it’s the ones that evoke passion and vision that garner the most attention. Ojas Wellness, a health and wellness center and multiyear winner of Baltimore Magazine’s Best of Baltimore award, needed a revamp of their website to aid in the opening of their fourth location. After nailing down the aesthetic with rebranding, we sought to make a site that allows clients to view and book services with ease. A responsive design—coupled with custom event and blog sections—created a hub for Ojas to communicate with their clients and make a lasting impression.

One of our most cherished opportunities is being able to parlay our own Brand design into a truly amazing website. When we can do so for a premiere Baltimore nonprofit with a mission of coordinating strategy, supporting programs and advancing policy on behalf of Baltimore City's youth - well that's what we're all about. It was imperative for Mission to create a website for Baltimore's Promise in which the organization could clearly communicate their vision, and display critical data released to their core Cradle-to-Career Continuum areas in a way that is easy for the user to understand. It truly was a carefully orchestrated balance of form and function.

When Baltimore City set out to make a drastic change to its long-standing public access channel, TV25, the importance of a broader digitial platform to showcase content was not underestimated. With an investment in high-production value, original, Primetime programming focused on depicting the "Essence of Baltimore," coupled with a keen eye on government access and transparency, the management at the newly appointed CharmTV understood that Comcast alone could only reach a fraction of the intended Baltimore City audience. Mission was engaged to design and build a responsive website to tell the CharmTV story, and to deliver content seamlessly across all devices. 

The website sesign reflects the energy and vibrancy of the new CharmTV, bringing to light the best our city has to offer. However, it might be what's "behind the scenes" that's truly the most remarkable element of the site. The talented technical crew at Mission - comprised of individuals typically found toiling away in relative obscurity, yet who, quite literally, bear the responsibility of "making things work" - conceptualized and developed a client-friendly tool to easily manage the dsiplay of the progam schedule comprised of 168 hours of programming a week, 52 weeks a year. They also integrated content throughout the Content Management System to link relevant information in a way that embraces simplicity and maximizes user experience for both the individual managing the content and the end user.

The average length of time between website redesigns is two years, according to the Internet. So when those years (plus a bunch more) pass and you then get to overhaul your own past work…it's a pretty special process. We re-launched the Phillips Restaurants website and were able to leverage our years of experience with the brand along side today's best practices. The site's UX succeeds in answering the quick "where, when and what" searches, as well as providing an engaging storyline for the user who has just a little more time on their hands. Our "mobile first" process with Phillips ensured that the audiences got the right information at the right time.

Barcs Dogs Day Out

When the folks at the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter asked us to help establish the digital presence that this wonderful organization deserves, we jumped on-board with no hesitation. After an overhaul of the primary website, which featured the stellar photography of Dean Alexander, we set to work on the Dogs Day Out web-based app. This little guy geolocates dog owners and matches them to nearby dog parks, beaches and trails throughout the region. The reader in the relationship can then find all the details and quickly get directions.

MICA Graduate School Promotion

We all get crap all the time from a lot of different places. When you are applying to schools you get even more crap. So when asked to come up with something that would entice MICA Grad School applicants, we decided to be anti-crap. The result was a look book embedded in a really nice sketchbook – an absolute keeper. It was front-loaded with business card size tear-outs for all the potential majors. Also included was an interactive CDROM (that at the time of production was still relatively cool). We were told by the administration that on the first day of school easily eight out of ten new grad students had one of these tucked under their arm.

Eddie's of Roland Park is a quintessential Baltimore brand. Fiercely independent and family owned since 1944, the two Eddie's locations have built a loyal customer base that appreciates being addressed by name. Tasked with evolving the Eddie's brand and establishing a connection with the newer generation, Mission began by reintroducing the identity inspired by the past but with a modern twist. The new identity system created the foundation for a comprehensive overhaul of the graphic language that was applied to the packaging, the signage, the digital channels and everything in between.

Meet Me at the Zoo TV

The spots for the Maryland Zoo were an exercise in simplicity. All we knew going into the shoot day was that we wanted pure and honest moments from children related to the animals at the Zoo. Sure it was inexpensive, but more importantly it was authentic. Asking the kids to act out their favorite animals was originally intended to only be an icebreaker. These moments, however, turned out to be exactly the kind of sentiment we were aiming for.

STX Field Hockey Packaging

On the surface, this collection simply represents solid sporting goods packaging that extends the brand and catches the consumer's eye. The project goal was more complicated though. We wanted to reinvent the field hockey packaging line to have as minimal waste as possible. Wherever possible, we sourced or had manufactured reusable bags, satchels and cases that would protect the product while allowing it to breathe in the athlete's gear bag. Any non-reusable elements were recyclable.

Their eagerness to challenge the industry status quo allowed us to imagine their brand and owned media in a manner that was distinctly Ellin & Tucker, and thus distinctly different. Santa Fe Acceptance Package

Right on the heels of wrapping a complete rebranding of Santa Fe University of Art & Design, the client threw one last challenge at us. They realized that the acceptance letter prospective that students received was the last touch point with their target audience. And it was a touch point that no one in the industry was paying attention to. Our solution was not outside of the box at all. In fact, it was an eight-inch resin cast mount of the mythical Jackelope, nestled in a custom designed box. The piece became the crowning jewel on what was a comprehensive and fully integrated repositioning for an inspired and trusting client.

Product Relaunch

The packaging we designed for SoBotanical needed to present consistent branding across a large variety of products that required different-sized jars, bottles and wrappers. The small Baltimore-based company is proud to be one of the finest Aromatherapy Apothecaries around and wanted the packaging to portray their commitment to authentic essential oils and the finest and most natural ingredients available. The packaging is minimal in size – just a thin band around each bottle or jar – to prevent the custom blends from being overwhelmed by the packaging. The typography nods to vintage apothecary labels while the color palette is fresh but understated.

Faced with the challenge of selling an upscale retail and gaming concept in Toronto prior to putting the first shovel in the ground, this marketing brochure for The Cordish Companies relied heavily on rich, descriptive visuals to depict their aspirations and engage prospective customers in their vision. The meticulously designed long-form brochure paid homage to the land’s equine history while also focusing on its future as a thriving entertainment district.

A public high school focused on the professional training of a diverse student body in classic arts disciplines needed a website that skates the fine line between trendy and sophisticated, while intuitively organizing an awful lot of content. We crafted a user-friendly interface that facilitates the display of multimedia content to the school’s core audience segments.

wcfsymphony Identity System

We were giddy when Mission was asked to play a part in an epic transformation of the symphonic experience. No longer just a stodgy night out restricted to a black-tie clad silver generation, the wcfsymphony makes the expression of art accessible to all. The “order from chaos” mantra true to the art form plays a central role in the new identity design, as does a playful, modern sophistication evident in the font selection, color palette and dynamic use of photography.

STX’s core brand attribute – extraordinary performance – drives the product design for the field hockey line. Sticks tailored for style of play and that align with STX’s cross-sport families, including Surgeon (quick and precise), Stallion (power and control) and Hammer (strength and toughness), inform Mission’s dynamic graphic stick designs, which in turn bolster each athlete’s on-the-field persona.
